It is a good idea to discuss this with your physio so that we can tailor-make a rehabilitation program for you. Usually patients adhere to training when they are doing exercise that they love… if you hate the exercise you will soon stop doing it. Walking is safe for almost anyone, but you need to wear correct shoes. If you start slowly, with a short distance/time (e.g. 15 mins) and then build up the distance weekly to improve your endurance, you are less likely to hurt yourself. Many patients find that buying a stationary bike or treadmill is a waste of money as they lose interest quickly and then no longer use it. If you are going to an exercise class or studio, don’t be afraid to ask for the qualifications of the instructor – you need to trust that they will give you the best training program without injuries. If you love working out in a gym, make sure you get someone to show you how to use the equipment properly to avoid injuries. Do your homework and investigate your options fully, to avoid disappointment and wasting money.
