Treatments
From injuries, whiplash, poor posture and old problems. Also pain, pins and needles or numbness into the arm and hand caused by a pinched nerve in the neck. We aim to treat the pain, restore movement and muscle function, correct posture and give you exercises to strengthen your spine, so that you will be less likely to have further episodes of pain.
Dry needling is a very successful medical treatment which uses very thin needles without any medication to achieve its aim. It is used to treat pain and dysfunction caused by muscle problems, sinus trouble, headaches and some nerve problems. Dry needling works by changing the way your body senses pain, and by helping the body heal stubborn muscle spasm associated with trigger points. It is important to see the needles as just one part of your overall rehabilitative treatment. Our therapists have been specifically trained in the various needling techniques.
We regularly offer lectures on preventing falls in older adults. Balance and strengthening exercises are taught. Please phone Amy 011-849-7726 for more information.
Whether due to stress, whiplash, sports injuries, or work postures (computers are the main culprit), headaches can be totally debilitating. Physiotherapy offers wonderful relief, as well as helping you to manage your workstation to prevent recurrences.
Due to injuries, overuse, sport, and arthritis.
From new-use, over-use or abuse. Also occur due to accidents on the field. These should be treated as soon as possible, and need a complete and comprehensive rehabilitation program to prevent recurrent injuries.
Including Bell’s palsy, shingles and injuries from car accidents.
For bronchitis, pneumonia and any time when you are unable to clear the phlegm. If you have had more than one course of antibiotics, with poor results, you can come directly for the treatment, which has excellent results.
Our climate and pollution levels affect hundreds of people, causing allergic rhinitis. Sinusitis is common, causing severe headaches and facial pain. The rinoflow, and electrotherapy used, help to drain the sinuses, and decrease the production of mucus, giving wonderful relief of symptoms.
Many women experience urinary leaking on coughing or sneezing, especially after giving birth, or in later years. Our program is very effective in stopping this.
Not all “colic” babies have true colic. We treat their spines and have had excellent results in getting them more peaceful, relaxed, sleeping better and crying much less.
We have comprehensive rehabilitation programs for these. The earlier they are treated, the less likely the chances of severe deformities to be carried into their adult lives.
Scoliosis is a medical condition in which a person’s spine is curved from side to side, in either an “S” or “?” shape. It can develop very gradually and it is often not diagnosed until a child is much older. Children with neuromuscular conditions such as Cerebral Palsy and Muscular Dystrophy often develop scoliosis because of muscle weakness and asymmetry.
Noticeable symptoms are:
- A prominent shoulder blade where one shoulder blade is higher than the other
- Uneven hips, arms or leg lengths
- The ribcage is more prominent on one side
- Slow nerve action (in some cases)
Scheurman’s Kyphosis is a disorder where the vertebrae grow unevenly with respect to sagittal plan causing a fixed rounding of the upper back, and occurs most commonly in adolescent males. A child with Scheurmans cannot consciously correct their posture and are unable to straighten their back. This uneven growth results in the signature “wedging” shape of the vertebrae.
Scheuermann’s disease is notorious for causing lower and mid-level back and neck pain, which can be severe and disabling. Many sufferers of the disorder have loss of vertebral height, and depending on where the apex of the curve is, may have a visual ‘hunchback’ or ’roundback’. It has been reported that curves in the lower thoracic region cause more pain, whereas curves in the upper region present a more visual deformity. Nevertheless, it is typically pain or cosmetic reasons that prompt sufferers to get help for their condition.
After operations one needs to restore joint range and function. The muscles need to be strengthened and proprioception retrained. This includes shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and foot surgery.
Knee and hip replacements, generally in the older population group, benefit markedly from this treatment.
Thoracic pain can be referred from the neck. Many pains from the thoracic spine are felt along the ribs or in the front of the chest. These pains are often confused with a heart attack. Thoracic pain from the spine is often increased with deep breathing, coughing or sneezing.
Mobilisation and special massage techniques are used successfully, as well as traction in certain cases.
